English Pronunciation : BEE-VIRS
Origin: The Biewer Yorkie was originally a piebald genetic recessive gene occurence from 2 Yorkshire Terriers. It originated in Germany on January 20, 1984 from a breeding by Gertrude and Werner Biewer's Yorkshire Terriers. In this litter came a piebald Yorkie puppy from a genetic recessive gene. It's name was Schneefloeckchen von Friedheck (Snowflake). Mother and Father were Fru-Fru von Friedheck and Darling Von Friedheck. Gertrude and Werner Biewer found this puppy to be quite beautiful and began a selective breeding process. They named these Yorkies with white markings "Biewer Yorkshire a la Pom Pon". It was from these breedings the Biewer Yorkie was developed. The breed was officially recognized in 1986 by the ACH (allgemeiner Club der Hundefreunde Deutschland-ACH-L e.v.)
Description of a standard Biewer:
Head: Symmetrical colored with white, blue (black) and gold. Dark eyes and rims. Ears standing erect. Black nose.
Body: That of a long-haired toy terrier whose hair hangs evenly and quite straight down the body. The tail should be carried up. The outlines should give the impression of a powerful and well proportioned body. The hair on the body has a length of 3/4 down the sides of the dog or long enough to reach the ground and is straight. It should be of a fine silky texture. Coloring of the trunk should be rather white or blue(black)-white broken or blue (black) absolutely without brown coloring. Hair on the breast should be pure white as well as on the belly and legs.
Temperament: The Biewer seems oblivious of its size. It is eager for adventure and very curious. It is highly energetic, brave and very intelligent. It can be agressive to strange dogs and small animals. They do best with older considerate children. They are usually easy to train but can be stubborn at times.
Grooming: These little dogs do require attention. Most owners prefer to have them in a "puppy cut" if they are to be companion dogs. The coat needs to be combed regularly to prevent matting.
